’n ANC-raadslid, Nomxolisi Nqwena-Maliwa (47), is Vrydagaand by die Sofuthe-nedersetting in Dutywa in die Oos-Kaap doodgeskiet. 

Volgens die polisie het die 47-jarige na haar besigheidsperseel gegaan om geld te gaan haal. 

Voorlopige ondersoeke dui aan dat terwyl sy besig was om die geld in die motor te tel, is sy deur twee onbekende verdagtes gekonfronteer is. Hulle het haar na bewering [in die kop] geskiet en ontsnap in ’n voertuig wat naby die misdaadtoneel gestaan ​​het.

Polisiewoordvoerder, brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, het aan AfriNUUS gesê daar word verder beweer dat niks tydens die voorval beroof is nie.

“Volgens die inligting het die 47-jarige raadslid haar motor voor haar besigheid geparkeer waar sy na bewering geld gaan haal het. Hulle het haar na bewering met ’n vuurwapen geskiet en daarna ontsnap in ’n wit Toyota Avanza wat ’n paar meter van die misdaadtoneel geparkeer was,” sê Kinana.

“Daar word verder beweer dat niks tydens die voorval beroof is nie. Die polisie het ‘n moordsaak vir ondersoek aanhangig gemaak. Geen arrestasie is in hierdie stadium gemaak nie. Die omstandighede rondom die voorval is tans onbekend en die polisie sal geen bespiegelings in dié verband maak nie.”

Die African National Congress (ANC) in die Oos-Kaap het vanoggend gesê die party is geskok en woedend oor die sluipmoord op raadslid Nomxolisi Nqwena-Maliwa wat gistermiddag plaasgevind het. Sy het as die voorsitter van die etiek- en ledebelangkomitee van die Mbhashe Plaaslike Munisipaliteit gedien.

“Kameraad Maliwa se lyk is in haar voertuig by die Ngcingwane-nedersetting in Dutywa gevind met ’n skietwond in haar kop,” lui ’n verklaring deur die ANC.

“Ons doen ’n beroep op wetstoepassingsagentskappe om onvermoeid te werk om die oortreders te straf. Die moord op ’n openbare verteenwoordiger is gelykstaande aan ondermyning van demokrasie omdat raadslede dienaars van die mense is. Dit is voorvalle soos hierdie gruwelike misdaad wat ons herinner dat misdaad en geweld ’n ernstige uitdaging in ons gemeenskappe bly.”

POLICE LAUNCH MANHUNT FOR THE MURDER OF A COUNCILLOR

SAPS Organised Crime unit is investigating a murder case after a Mayoral Committee Member from Mbhashe Municipality was murdered on Friday afternoon the 17th February 2023 at about 13:30 at Sofuthe Locality in Dutywa.

According to the information, the 47 year old Councillor was parking her car in front of her business where she allegedly went to collect money. Preliminary investigation revealed that as she was busy counting the money inside the car, she was confronted by two unidentified male suspects, one of whom was clad in a Baraclover. They allegedly shot her with a fire-arm and thereafter escaped in a white Toyota Avanza which was parked a few meters from the crime scene.

It is further alleged that nothing was robbed during the incident. Police have registered a Murder case for investigation. No arrest has been made at this stage. The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently unknown and the police will not make any speculations in this regard.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene has ordered the detectives to spare no time in ensuring that those involved in this cold-blooded murder are found in order to account for their actions.

ANC EASTERN CAPE CONDEMNS THE KILLING OF COUNCILLOR NOMXOLISI NQWENA -MALIWA

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape is shocked and outraged by the assassination of Councillor Nomxolisi Nqwena – Maliwa who served as the Chairperson of Ethics and Members Interest Committee of Mbhashe Local Municipality yesterday afternoon (Friday 17 February 2023).

Comrade Maliwa’s body was found inside her vehicle at Ngcingwane Location in Dutywa with a gunshot wound in her head.

We call on law enforcement agencies to work tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to book. Killing of a public representative is tantamount subversion of democracy because councillors are servants of the people .It is incidents such as this heinous crime that remind us that crime and violence remains a grave challenge in our communities .

The ANC extends its heartfelt condolences to her family, comrades, colleagues, friends, her community that she served with dedication and passion up to this last day. We share their grave sense of loss.
